In Swahili, "Kofi" means, 'open hand'.  The Clay Tapestries in this series offer tribute to older Africa through an organic, elemental aesthetic.  The plaques are decorated with natural yields such as ivory, raffia, seeds and hides.  Red is ever present and sourced from ochre, a widely used natural color dye. Bronze, iron and glass trade beads recall ancient traditions and cultures past.
